The blog shows the properties of olive oil and how much it can be helpful for us. Olive oil is one of the most common types of oil. Its high nutritional value and has good control over the health. There is a variety of olive oil present in the market. Though it has 8 types of oil only 4 types can be found in the market. Olive oil is commonly used by the citizens of the Mediterranean countries. Despite having so many benefits it has a lot of disadvantages. The study is based on how it is useful and how it is harmful. The study shows the effect of olive oil on our health.

Olive oil

Olive oil is a type of oil that is extracted from the fleshy part of a fruit called olive. The color of the oil produced by this ripened fruit may vary. The color of this oil varies from a range of yellow to golden. The oil obtained from unripe fruit is green in color. The features and the advantages of this oil vary from country to country. This variation occurs due to the different climate conditions of the place and the different states of the fruit.

Ripen fruit produces yellow to golden color oil but the unripe one produces green color oil. These oils are produced and exported to India from various countries like the countries of the Mediterranean Basin which is the largest source of olive oil and some other country like California, South America, and Australia. Virgin olive oil is obtained from the ripe olives which have 20-30% of oil after the pit is removed depending on the climate conditions and the care of the cultivation. It is obtained through the first step of mechanical pressing and does not require any further treatment. The oils that are obtained from freshly ripen fruits are good for consumption without any kind of treatment.

Varieties of Olive oil 

Olive oil can be of different varieties due to varying cultivation technology, different treatment methods, and the ripening state of the fruit. Olive oils can be classified into 4 types. The virgin oils can be classified into two the extra virgin, virgin, and the lampante. The next one comes the one that is produced chemically which is called the raw pomace oil.

The next is refined oil which has two variations refined olive oil and refined pomace oil. The last one is blended oil which consists of two oil called the olive oil and the pomace olive oil. Despite having so many varieties, only 4 types of olive oil are found in the market. The four oils are virgin, extra virgin, olive oil, and Pomace Olive oil.

Advantages of Olive Oil 

Olive oil in all its variations has an uncountable number of advantages. A few of such advantages include:

  • Olive oil is extracted from the olive fruit. The oil consists of 14% saturated fat and 11% poly saturated fat. This poly saturation fat includes omega-6 and omega-3. But the 73% of oil is made up of oleic acid which is a mono saturated fatty acid. This type of fat reduces inflammation and has other effective benefits.
  • The extra virgin oil except for the fatty acids also contains several other antioxidants. It has vitamin E and K within it. The antioxidants present in the oil are active and help in reducing the risk of heart diseases.
  • The various antioxidants and fatty acids present in the olive oil prevent heart diseases and hence increase the health of the heart. Mediterranean countries use olive oil as their basic food oil. The rate of heart diseases or oil-related diseases in these countries is lower than in any other country because of the use of olive oil.

Disadvantages of Olive oil 

Olive oil despite its benefits causes some adverse effects on the body because of its high amount of fatty acids present within it. It has a high amount of mono saturated fatty acids which can cause several diseases in the body. It may cause diseases like atherosclerosis, obesity, heart attack, stroke, breast cancer, and several other diseases.

It is helpful for consumption but regular consumption of this can cause several problems. The oil under high temperatures can produce several toxic elements that are harmful to health. Excessive intake of olive oil can affect the cholesterol level within our body by reducing the good cholesterol and increasing the bad cholesterol. The oil also affects our blood sugar levels. It lowers the blood sugar level as it makes a way for increased insulin resistance.

How does olive oil help in reducing weight 

Olive oil has the same calorie just like other oils so it does not control anything overweight but it has several advantages. As it is suggested by the physician not to take too much oil, it works the same for the case of olive oil. Taking off too much oil of any kind is harmful. But it is suggested to use olive oil because of its properties. Olive oil has the exact amount of calories of 1gram oil equals 9-kilo calories. Olive oil has a good impact on health and if it is added to the diet in the correct proportion suggested it will be good for the health.

Why is olive oil better than other oils?

Olive oil is better than other oils and is much more preferred than other oils because of its highly beneficial qualities. Though it is costlier than other oils it still provides a lot of good fatty acids and antioxidants for the betterment of our health. This oil has the same amount of calories but still, it has antioxidants to reduce the rate of heart disease.

The study hence can be concluded on a note that olive has its benefits but we must keep in our mind that every good thing has defaulted. If olive oil is consumed in low quantity it can be useful but consumption in higher quantities can show various adverse effects on the body.

Keeping in mind the usefulness of this oil, the oil can be added to a healthy diet before any other oil. The virgin and the extra virgin oil is one of the best-processed oil and these two varieties of olive oil are highly preferred by doctors. Olive oil needs to be cooked at a low flame because under a high flame it may produce toxic antioxidants.
